Obama: ‘We’ve Continued to Be Deeply Concerned By Events in Ukraine’

‘We’re imposing sanctions on more senior officials of the Russian government’

President Obama expands sanctions against Russia (New York Daily News)

President Obama announced Thursday he will expand sanctions against key Russian officials, in addition to signing an executive order that would clear the way for the President to impose sanctions on key sectors in the Russian economy.

The latest wave of sanctions will hit government officials in addition to those who provide "material support" for the regime, including one bank.

The move comes days after sanctions were announced against 11 Russian and Ukrainian officials on Monday.

On Wednesday, Russian troops, backed by unarmed volunteers, stormed Ukraine's naval headquarters in the Crimean port of Sevastopol and raised their flag.
