Dershowitz: ‘I Challenge the Obama Admin.’ To Debate Me on Iran Deal

‘ I am a loyal, patriotic American; I love my country; I am not a warmonger, I’m not a billionaire — I oppose this deal because, on the merits, I don’t think it’s a good deal’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

CARLSON: "You wanted to make sure that you got your point of view out there about how much you oppose this deal, and you say that the most important thing is to focus on what we don't know about this deal, right?"
DERSHOWITZ: "That's right. What we -- we don't know what we don't know. We keep learning new things every day. We now simply don't know how these inspections will be conducted. We don't know why Iran needs 24 days to move around material and get ready for certain other kinds of inspections. Look, if they had nothing to hide, if they weren't intending to cheat, they wouldn't need 24 days. When I have a criminal client who is innocent and the police come to the door, I say, hey, search right away. Don't take an extra minute. I don't want anybody to suspect that maybe he is destroying evidence. If you have something to hide, then you want the 24 days. The other thing we don't know about the deal is does it or doesn't it allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons after ten years. The president has said no. And the president has said yes."
CARLSON: "Right."
DERSHOWITZ: "We don't know the answers to these questions. The Congress is being asked to buy a pig in a poke. And the American security and the security of our allies demands much more than that. That's why I wrote the book "The case against the Iran deal." This is not a good deal, from what we know. From what we don't know, it may even be worse."
CARLSON: "You've also written that the president should stop questioning the motivations of opponents like yourself who are against this deal. Why do you say that?"
DERSHOWITZ: "I am a liberal Democrat who opposed the Iraq war just like President Obama did. Were we being disloyal to our commander in chief because we opposed the Iraq war or I opposed the Vietnam war? I am a loyal, patriotic American. I love my country. I am not a warmonger, I'm not a billionaire. I oppose this deal because, on the merits, I don't think it's a good deal. I challenge the Obama Administration, let's go on Fox, let's have Lincoln-Douglas type debates. Put forth your best advocate for the deal and we'll put forth our best advocate against the deal and let the public decide. The public is overwhelmingly against the deal at the moment so the Obama Administration should have nothing to lose by engaging in these debates. Instead they call us warmongers. They call me a neo-con. They say we're guilty of dual loyalty as if somehow we don't have a right to dissent against American policies."
CARLSON: "Well I don't think you're going to get that debate."
