Wallace to Sen. Corker: Is DOJ Punishing Menendez for Opposing Obama? (Mediaite)

On Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace asked Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker (R-TN) about the committee’s former ranking member Bob Menendez (D-NJ), who was just indicted on more than a dozen charges of corruption. Some have noted that the charges come as Menendez has fought the administration over its detente with Cuba and its nuclear deal with Iran, and wondered whether the two were connected.

“Do you believe there is any connection between [Menendez's] opposition to the president on this and on Cuba, and the fact that he was brought up on charges?” Wallace asked, giving perhaps the most high-profile voicing of this particular innuendo.

“I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes,” Corker said. “I know that Menendez has been a very good partner on foreign policy issues. He’s been very constructive, and I’m sure he will continue to be.”
