Jim Baker on Bush: ‘What a Beautiful, Beautiful Human Being; I Consider Him To Be My Best Friend’

‘I’m going to miss everything about him’

BAKER: “Well, I’m going to miss him. What a beautiful, beautiful human being, a friend of 60 years. He was my daughter’s godfather. He was my friend, as I say, of 60 years. I was his campaign manager in all of his campaigns for president. He gave me the privilege of serving as secretary of state in those four very consequential years that he was president and in which he built an extraordinarily productive and successful foreign policy legacy. So, you know, I’m going to miss everything about him. And, in fact, I do. I had a tough time yesterday and I finally went out and did some fast walking in the park and got myself back together, but he’s special. He used to refer to our relationship as one of big brother, little brother. And I’ve told people that is a characterization that I take as quite an honor. I consider him to be my best friend. He has told people he considered me in the same way. So that, too, as far as I’m concerned, is a big honor.”
